SPRINGFIELD — U.S. Rep. Richard E. Neal, D-Springfield, the ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, issued a statement Saturday criticizing President Trump for derailing trade negotiations with Canada.
TOWN HALL
Neal, who represents Springfield in Congress, released a statement Saturday accusing the Trump administration of blowing up trade talks with Canada. As the top Democrat on the House committee that oversees trade policy, Neal has used the post throughout his tenure to press the White House on issues affecting Massachusetts industry and cross-border commerce. His office's release did not detail specific local fallout, but the statement puts Springfield's longtime congressman on record opposing the administration's approach as the trade dispute continues to play out.
