Springfield residents pressed the City Council to act on courthouse funding and marijuana sentencing during Monday's public speak-out.
Select Board · Meeting of April 13, 2026
Springfield residents pressed the City Council to act on courthouse funding and marijuana sentencing during Monday's public speak-out. Resident Karen Lee asked councilors to back a resolution directing the state's Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance to build a dedicated community-impact revenue stream into the Springfield Regional Justice Center lease, saying "the residents of Springfield shouldn't bear the financial burden of a state-led project." She said the courthouse could stand for 60 years without added funding protections for the city. Resident Stephen Howard asked the council to consider expanding "second chance" sentence-reduction credit, currently 15 days per month, now that the state has doubled the legal marijuana purchase limit to two ounces.
