Select Board · Meeting of May 4, 2026

Springfield activists pressed the City Council to open up its budget process. Pioneer Valley Project leaders told councilors Monday that a survey of more than 500 residents found 88 percent had never been asked to weigh in on city budget priorities and only 6.3 percent felt they had real influence over spending. The council then voted 13-0 to accept a March revenue report showing a $1.8 million snow and ice deficit and a $1.6 million year-over-year jump in motor vehicle excise revenue.

Resident Karen Lee urged support for a resolution tied to the Springfield Regional Justice Center, saying impacts are "evaluated, yes, but not incorporated into the total project cost." Councilors also approved $39,000 in combined grants and heard that clearing weeds from part of Watershops Pond cost roughly $155,000.
