Select Board · Meeting of June 2, 2026

Springfield's Finance Committee advanced 20 Community Preservation Act grants after the CPC chair capped awards to two major affordable housing developments. Community Preservation Committee Chair Bob McCallum presented a $3,232,557 CPA revenue estimate and recommended $300,000 awards for projects including a first-time homebuyer program, pickleball courts at two parks, and the Gunn Block rehabilitation, while the Bella Apartments and Wayfinders' Bay Street apartments each received only $100,000 against $300,000 requests. Developer Matt Zoller said the shortfall leaves "a gap" as his project competes for state tax credits, but McCallum said the committee had finished voting and prefers funding "little bubble up projects" over "mega million" developments.

The committee also reviewed an $800,000 free cash transfer for retroactive fire department raises and a $5,865,000 bond proceeds cleanup covering mostly school construction projects. The full package heads to City Council around June 22.
