Audit: Springfield fixed most school bus contract flaws
Town Board 2026-09-23 Part 2 · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Springfield audit subcommittee hears most bus contract fixes done, but 22 buses still unregistered. City Auditor Noe reported First Student implemented 12 of 14 recommendations from a 2024 transportation audit, including EpiPen training and a single parent hotline, but 22 of an original 44 vehicles still lack city excise tax payments after at least three years. Councilor Davila said she would "follow up offline" with procurement and law departments to learn "how much money we are owed." Auditor Noe also reported 179 student activity accounts totaling roughly $373,000 as of June 30, 2025, with exceptions including a $5,800 disbursement that bypassed the city's warrant process through a personal credit union check and $1,610 in mishandled refunds at Central High's Disney Learning program.
Noe said he will call an audit committee meeting to review a recent citywide cybersecurity assessment in executive session.
