Conservation Board Approves Erosion Fix for Broadbrook
Conservation Board · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Springfield Conservation Board swaps pump for cofferdam on Broadbrook erosion project. The board voted 4-0 to amend a January order of conditions after consultant Izzy of TRC said a planned dewatering pump could not be refueled without violating buffer-zone rules, given a 45-foot elevation change at the site: "it's just really not feasible for us to continue with this specific method." Contractor Sumco Eco-Contracting will instead use a two-stage sandbag cofferdam and a floating turbidity curtain, adding about two days to an eight-to-nine-week job. Commissioners Collins, Alminas, Jones and Ryan also ratified, 4-0, an emergency permit issued to the Department of Public Works after a road-undercutting bank failure, and approved a partial certificate of compliance for a decades-old filing on Elaine Serpo.
A separate applicant's case was continued to October 13 pending mussel survey results.
