Springfield's City Council General Government Committee reviewed a 2025 mail-in voting breakdown and polling-site fixes, taking no votes. Election Commissioner Gladys Oyola-Lopez and Deputy Election Commissioner Chelsea Parmentier said a disconnect between the city's voter database and the state's online portal left mail-in applications unprocessed last year, something the committee chair discovered only after his own and his wife's ballots never arrived. Oyola-Lopez said "there should be more diligence on our part" and committed to a manual check with the state before each election.
The chair floated adding a vote-by-mail sign-up slip to the city's census mailing, which reaches roughly 89,000 households, to target residents 60 and older. Officials also said the MLK polling site will close for the September and November elections, and reported fixes at Rebecca Johnson, Highland House and Mason Square Library. Erica Cruz asked about a June 2, 2026 U.S.
Postal Service rule on mail ballots; Oyola-Lopez said the city "will not be following" any federal guideline that conflicts with state election law.
