Select Board · Meeting of June 15, 2026
SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield City Council's Finance Committee reviewed more than $2.4 million in grants and budget transfers without taking a formal vote. Deputy Director for 911 Rebecca Ocasio presented two state 911 grants totaling $1,338,847.29, while a staffer identified only as Jerry said a $934,000 youth homeless services renewal grant serves "over 300 youth, 18 to 24" annually across Hampden County, funding a 24-hour hotline, a six-bed shelter and transitional housing tied to foster-youth Section 8 vouchers. A finance staffer disclosed a calculation error in a prior bond-proceeds transfer, saying "we just have to reverse a small portion of it." A councilor also asked whether leftover FY25 free cash could go toward tax relief instead of the Stabilization Reserve Fund; staff said that would require a separate council order, and the money would otherwise be locked up "until free cash is certified next year."
