SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield City Council committee heard that paving a Blunt Park path beside Bay Path Cemetery would first require surveys and an archaeological study. Laura, a Parks Department staff member, said about 900 people were buried at the cemetery between roughly 1871 and 1951, and a granite slab in the path may be tied to it. She put a rough paving estimate at "at least 150,000" dollars and said Community Preservation Act funding was unlikely.
Councilor Hurst asked that the Bay Area Neighborhood Council be invited to a follow-up meeting after another councilor read six requests from its Jan. 7 letter, including snow removal, lighting and a clear maintenance owner. No vote was taken.
