Select Board · Meeting of October 1, 2026

Springfield's Elder Affairs Committee heard that senior scams are growing more sophisticated while Greater Springfield Senior Services ignores elder abuse reports. Detective McCain, the lone Springfield officer assigned to elder and disabled abuse cases for 11 years, said a woman whose house was shot 25 times waited 12 days without an agency visit despite three reports. Councilor Victor Davila said the committee should "find out how much, if any, is being given to" the agency and demand statistics.

Captain Miller has personally paid for hotel stays for displaced elderly residents after the agency failed to act, Detective McCain said. A free scam-prevention presentation with a credit union is set for November 17 at the Raymond Jordan Senior Center. No formal votes were taken.
