Select Board · Meeting of February 2, 2026

Springfield City Council approved a $2.5 million bond for design work on a combined White Street and Kensington Avenue school. The vote was 13-0. Peter Garvey, who described himself as director of capital asset construction, said the money covers a design team and an owner's project manager required by the state school building authority, and both buildings are more than 100 years old.

Councilors also discontinued about 6,000 square feet of Wallace Street after rejecting a committee referral 10-2. Springfield College President Mary Beth Cooper said she does not "want to bring another video to you where a student is hit and killed" as the council sent the Wilbraham Avenue closure to committee. Burns reported plowing spending of $1,823,686.95 against a $1,591,250 budget.
