Historical Commission · Meeting of May 7, 2026
SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Historical Commission rejected a new home proposed for Long Hill Street and approved two solar installations. Commissioner Alfonso Nardi said the house's roughly 70 feet of solid frontage made it feel "too solid" next to neighboring homes with open porches, and commissioners including Walter Kroll and Vana Nespor voted no, with no yes votes recorded. Resident James Sedlak told the board the design "doesn't fit the neighborhood," and resident Denise Mosea said the house is too big for the space it is on.
The commission separately voted 4-0 to approve a 12-panel solar system at 65 Bellevue Avenue, 5-0 to approve a 16-panel system with battery storage at 17 George Street, and 5-0 to approve a 36-window replacement at 185 Belmont Avenue. It also found a planned Willow Street parking lot project would adversely affect a historic foundation wall.
