SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield School Committee approved three field trips and heard a middle school transformation update. STEM Middle Academy Principal Andrea Williams and South End Middle School Principal Yara Gonzalez described new acceleration blocks, and secondary math director Deatrice Johnson announced Saturday algebra sessions from Feb. 28 through April 11.

The superintendent proposed subcommittee meetings from 4 to 6 p.m. every other Wednesday, plus fall and spring town halls, without a vote. A Massachusetts Association of School Committees session for new members is set for March 21 in Worthington.
