School Committee · Meeting of April 9, 2026

Springfield's School Committee voted 6-1 to seek City Council approval for a school food service contract longer than three years. Chief Financial Officer Patrick Roach said the RFP would seek a one-year contract with four renewal options, because new vendors often lose money early, and the current contract expires June 30. Member Rosa Valentin cast the no vote, citing the roughly $30 million annual cost and meal quality complaints.

The committee appointed member Ayana Crawford to the scoring panel, to include a parent and a student. It also approved $1.4 million for electricity and $1,368,300 for snow removal.
