SPRINGFIELD — A City Council committee sent a four-site electric vehicle charging pilot back to the full council. Maintenance and Development Committee Chair LeVar Click-Bruce and Councilor Maria Perez heard staff and consultants describe a Mass Clean Energy Center grant that gives the city no cash. Sites are near Myrtle Street Park, Marshall Roy Park, the Apremont Triangle and Main and Jefferson, each with one dual-port charger taking two spaces.
Perez raised concerns about lost parking for small businesses. A consultant said the grant covers network and warranty costs for five years, with typical rates around 35 cents per kilowatt hour. Staff said the city has not set a rate.
