Councilors review Court Square renewal plan, no vote
Springfield councilors reviewed the Court Square Urban Renewal Plan without taking a vote.
Select Board · Meeting of March 10, 2026
Springfield councilors reviewed the Court Square Urban Renewal Plan without taking a vote. Chief Development Officer Tim Sheehan and consultant Michael Wang of Form & Place described a 30-year plan for downtown's northeast corner, including a two-way Chestnut Street, a new park and housing near Union Station. Sheehan said "We're not talking about 1,500 units coming in the foreseeable future," putting a realistic pace at 1,000 to 1,500 units over 10 years.
About 20 on-street parking spaces on Chestnut could be reduced if two-way traffic reaches State Street. A zone change affecting heavy-industrial land that bars housing goes to the full council for a hearing on March 23.
