SPRINGFIELD — The Historical Commission approved a Pine Street duplex design but rejected vinyl siding as a hardship. Petitioner Jim Morrissey, the Office of Housing's preferred developer for the former 227 Pine Street lot, said the project must close by the end of the month. Commissioners approved the windows, roof and half-width porch 6-0, then rejected the vinyl hardship request.
Commissioner Vincent Walsh moved to allow painted Hardie plank or clapboard instead, and it passed. Commissioner Kevin Coffee called the house "a speculative venture." Commissioners also continued the 167 Maple Street window case to April 16 and scheduled a site visit for April 8 at 9 a.m.
