SPRINGFIELD — The Historical Commission granted hardship relief for a collapsed chimney and a covered foundation at a fire-damaged Mountain View Street house. Members asked the owners to return within a month with a plan for a more appropriate front door. Roll calls on the chimney and the lighter-gray foundation paint drew six yes responses each, while a motion to approve the vinyl windows as installed appeared to fail.
Commissioner Vincent Walsh said "a more appropriate door should be found," and neighbors objected to unapproved work. The commission also found 101 Mulberry Street a historic resource ahead of a $300,000 Community Preservation Act roof request.
